If there's one gaming franchise that represents action and adventure ala Indiana Jones and Die Hard today, it's the Uncharted series.
The series' main hero and star, Nathan Drake, combines the qualities and traits of Dr. Henry Jones Jr. and John McClane, and is a bit like JackAss star Johnny Knoxville as well for his death-defying stunts. He's willing to risk tooth and neck to hunt for all kinds of treasure, and his sense of exploration and keeping artifacts from falling into the wrong hands has put him in more difficult situations than his life can afford. Fortunately, Nate (who's also voiced by the great Nolan North) is a daredevil with skill, and on the two Uncharted games that I've played for the PS3, he's shown he's capable of getting out of sticky situations, with an injury or two along the way to remind him of the effort. Again, it's your modern day Indiana Jones' game with a fresh new face that highlights the power and spectacle the Sony Playstation 3 provides, and with a third game and an entry for the upcoming PS Vita coming along, I'm curious to see how Nate navigates through those adventures and come out of it in one piece.
Naturally, the only theme that resonates with my memories of this game is Nate's own theme song. Take a moment to listen to it and feel how adventure should sound in the modern gaming age.
