Leap Day Post: Micro movie reviews and David Finch in Manila!

It's Leap Day today, and it's a good time to get some things posted up that I haven't had the chance to talk about. February 29th only comes once every 4 years, and because it adds an extra day to the calendar, we're treated to an extended goodbye for this month before welcoming March and the slow signs of Summer beginning. There's a lot of activities and dates piled up, and I'm going to talk about one big event to look forward to next month... DC Comics artist David Finch coming to Manila!. For now, here's some Micro Movie Reviews that I've been itching to share. Read them after the jump!

DZRJ 810AM Radio Guesting with DJ MB!

Yesterday, February 20th, was a good day. For many reasons alone, it gave me a chance to talk about what I do and one aspect of my being that I am most passionate about: blogging.

I was fortunate to be invited as a guest in local radio station DZRJ 810AM - Voice of the Philippines, for host DJ MaryBeth's show "Tuesdays with MaryBeth".

There, I was invited to talk about the art of blogging: specifically my daily news and hobby popculture blog Pop Culture Crusader; personal blog Timzster; and a shared Geek blog with one of my friends and fellow blogger Mark Cerbo, "Geekmatic". I go on to express how this passion has helped me through my career and life, opening new doors and avenues for me to explore as a writer and multimedia artist and granting me opportunities I am so grateful for. I also convey my own personal thoughts and opinions, as well as advice for those who want to start their own blog, and venture forth into the open world of expressing oneself.

Movie Review: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

The year of the superhero movies is upon us once more, and there's quite a mouthful of exciting titles to look forward to as 2012 rolls forward. With momentum building up to Josh Whedon's The Avengers, Marc Webb's new take on Spider-Man, and the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight saga, comic book fans certainly have a lot on their plate that will keep them satisfied and talking in the months to come. However, the comic book movie craze will officially begin this month, as Marvel releases their first salvo of heroism in the form of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Once again starring Nicholas Cage as Johnny Blaze/ Ghost Rider, the film is not exactly a direct sequel, and instead picks and retools elements from the first movie to generate a new adventure that is supposedly much darker and grittier than its predecessor. Before trailing off to the review, I'd like to extend my sincerest thanks to Warner Bros. Philippines for inviting me to the special screening of this film. Now that its riding in theaters, find out just how much hellfire and brimstone this film has.

Movie Review: Safe House

I enjoy watching Denzel Washington movies. No matter what role you put that man in, he seems to give 110% percent effort in everything, and he excels every minute you see him on screen. The last movie I saw him headline was "Unstoppable", as a train conductor trying to stop an uncontrollable unit on a high-speed collision course. He co-starred with Star Trek's own Chris "Jim Kirk" Pine on that one, and the flick was a pure adrenaline and popcorn rush vehicle that saw enjoyment from me. Now, the legendary actor teams up with another young and successful actor, Ryan Reynolds, in a action drama that will offer mind games and wild goose chases for the average buff. Special thanks again goes to Solar Entertainment for the screening of this film.

The WWFX Experience 2012!

I've been a fan of Professional Wrestling for as long as I can remember.

As a kid, I enjoyed seeing its early beginnings, idolizing legends and immortals in the industry such as Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, and The Undertaker, and my cousins and I would go cheer on as they'd take on the likes of Andre The Giant, The Big Bossman, and Rowdy Roddy Piper. When the 90's rolled along and ushered in the "Attitude Era", what was known as "Sports Entertainment" took on a new form and focused more on storylines that centered on "realism" and putting the hurt on each other by "extreme means" (aka WCW, ECW, WWE, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and DX). Those were the two sides of wrestling I grew up with, and despite alterations made to tone down the sport due to its risky and controversial nature over the years, it still remains a beloved staple for fans looking to be entertained, and there in lied the basis of the visit of one new promotion that visited my shores last weekend: The World Wrestling Fan Xperience Showcase Tour 2012!

Movie Review: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

It's been a long time since I've seen a good family-oriented adventure film, and much of the movies nowadays seem to border on more action and drama and less of the excitement and thrill. Fortunately, the start of the year bears fruit in the form of a fantastic voyage, headlined by The Great One himself, The Rock, and Sir Michael Caine - Journey 2: The Mysterious Island! Before getting down to the review, special thanks again goes to Warner Bros. Philippines and SM MoA IMAX Theater for the advanced screening earlier this week! Seeing it in IMAX and 3D was exciting, not to mention getting a bonus screening of The Dark Knight Rises Prologue before the movie proper!
