Films based on true events are usually hits or misses, for the sole fact that they can either dramatize a series of real-life events well or exaggerate it in a manner that blows everything out of proportion. Having a good director and filmcrew that does their research properly will keep things in line without sacrificing much on historical fact. Thankfully, that's what I found in Argo - a film by Ben Affleck that depicts the true life rescue operation of six U.S diplomats by C.I.A operative Tony Mendez during the Iran Hostage Crisis of 1979. Released last week in the US and set to open this week in the Philippines and other territories, there are many reasons to say why this could possibly be one of this year's sleeper hits, and this review will show why that is.
