Movie Review: Deadpool 2

Ever since he made the "R-Rated" schtick look cool and awesome with his 2016 superhero landing hit film "Deadpool", The X-Men Movies spinoff was destined to have a sequel with Ryan Reynolds back in the role as "The Merc with a Mouth" along with some new elements added to make it more bombastic and insane than ever. How about adding Josh Brolin as Cable, and Zazie Beetz as Domino? Not enough - HOW ABOUT X-FORCE?! That's going to put in more chimichangas up the ass than anyone ever asked for - and with the return of Weasel, Dopinder Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and of course Wade Wilson's sweetheart Vanessa, there's a lot riding in this follow up that should make fans very happy.

Thanks to 20th Century Fox PH, I got to see this AWESOME SEQUEL not once but TWICE - for the worldwide celebrated "Deadpool 2 Fan Event" last May 11th, and then on May 15th a day before the movie opened officially in theaters! Words cannot describe how much of an experience that was for me and my pals - and I got to do an impromptu cosplay of Cable as he appears in the film. He's a total badass, and Josh Brolin getting to play ANOTHER comic book character after wielding the Infinity Gauntlet AS THANOS in Avengers: Infinity War just blows my mind!

So now going on Week 2 (with the film earning a WHOPPING $300 plus million in the worldwide box office), here's my review on Deadpool 2!

Movie: Deadpool 2
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin
Directed By: David Leitch
Release Date: May 16 (Philippines), May 18, (USA)

After earning big bucks with the success of his eponymous film in 2016 and killing off Wolverine in "Logan" last year, it was only a matter of time until 20th Century Fox and Marvel brought Wade Wilson back his silly red spandex costume and raised hell again as the mercenary called "Deadpool". Wade has been living high and doing his job pretty well along with that big mouth of his - but tragedy strikes in an unexpected manner that forces the so-called "Merc With A Mouth" to reevaluate his life options. Things get more insane with the arrival of Cable - a mercenary from the future who wants to hunt down a mutant kid who does something nasty in his timeline. Left with a lot to prove and a new mission that could either go well or go nuts, Wade's gotta be there to save the kid and do something that makes him understand what it means to be a hero and be a part of a family.

DEADPOOL 2 | Official Trailer (Redband)

In a quick summary - RYAN REYNOLDS AGAIN EMBODIES WHAT IT MEANS TO BE DEADPOOL. He's funny, takes no shit, and talks like everything is his playground which pisses off everyone he comes into contact with. This movie was made to exploit the Canadian actor's wit and charm again, and it doesn't skip a beat at all. Wade's got a new challenge here, but he still likes to talk, talk, talk, and slice and dice bad guys while breaking the 4th wall to boot. It's hilarious and should impress fans of the character and comic books in general. I want to say more about it  - but it's a movie that has to be seen to be believed. It's also the supporting cast that gives it so much bang for its buck - Josh Brolin again looks good as the jacked up, cybernetic armed Cable, and he's a good foin to Wade Wilson in that both are going to have to coexist or blow each other up the best way possible. I also loved this iteration of "X-Force" - drawing up characters you would or would not know in any way (Hello "Peter") and of course add a pretty damn sexy and lucky Domino as played by Zazie Beetz. Everything was well drawn and written, and yeah Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead return along with new X-Men recruit Yukio, as does Deadpool's close circle pals in Weasel, Blind Al, and Dopinder, and of course the love of his life Vanessa.

There's not much else to say about Deadpool 2 now other than what I emphasized above - I still love the charm and freshness of the first film, but this is a very good sequel and follow up. Go and give this a watch - it just levitates Reynolds to awesomeness and pokes fun at his expense as does us. LOVE IT!

Rating - 5/5
