Movie Review: Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)

It's been a couple of years since the first and second Maze Runner films left a lasting impact on film audiences - introducing us to a beloved set of characters who escaped from a seemingly isolated maze, only to discover a sinister organization was manipulating them from behind the scenes and experimenting on them to find a cure for a virus that turns humans into zombie like creatures. It's a formula that makes for intriguing sci-fi suspense and adventure, which is why a lot of expectation and excitement is riding over the third film of the series - "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" - which has finally opened in theaters and serves as the final chapter to the movie series based on the books of the same name by James Dashner.

Thanks to 20th Century Fox, I got to see this thrilling installment this week - and I highly recommend it for fans of the series. It is a satisfying conclusion, but if you need more input - check out the review below!

MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE | Official Trailer

Taking place some time after the events of "Maze Runner: The Scortch Trials", Maze Runner: The Death Cure sees Thomas and his fellow Gladers making a final stand against W.C.K.D - determined to save their captured friends, find a safe haven away from danger, and hopefully find a cure for the "Flare" virus plaguing humanity. Unfortunately time is running out, and when Thomas, Newt, and the rest of their allies find the "Last City"and W.C.K.D headquarters, they will make a final stand that will see confrontations, reunions, and big sacrifices made that will determine their future and mankind's as well.

As the final film directed by Wes Ball, Maze Runner goes out with a bang and delivers all the non-stop action, thrills, and suspense you'd expect from the series. Dylan O'Brien reprises his role as Thomas and candidly leads his supporting cast of actors into the big endgame, which includes Thomas-Brodie Sangster as Newt, Ki Hong Lee as Minho, and Kaya Scodelario as Teresa. Aiden Gillen returns as the villainous Janson, and much strife and sacrifice will be done in order to see our heroic teens and the rest of surviving humanity come out of this one way or the other. It's your typical post-apocalyptic flare mixed with teen drama and adventure. Good things to combine to deliver a satisfying conclusion to this film series.
