Movie Review: The Lego Movie

"EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! EVERYTHING IS COOL!"

If you needed to sum up The Lego Movie in a few words (if not for the AWESOME POSTER seen here), then its those lines above from the amazingly catchy song "Everything Is Awesome!!!" sung by Tegan and Sara ft. The Lonely Island, which is featured prominently in the movie featuring those lovable construction bricks and directed by 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Truly a Lego fan and collector's dream movie come true, The Lego Movie appeals to the kid in you, and interlocks bricks of every kind in an epic type adventure that sees one ordinary guy teaming up with powerful Master Builders in order to save the Lego universe from an evil tyrant bent on keeping things glued together.

That premise, along with an all star line-up of amazing voice talents and some wacky bizarre building block fun makes this movie AWESOME in every sense of the word!

Also, here's a pic from the official Philippine premiere of the film last February 3 (with me dressed as Lego Batman)!

Now here's the review for "The Lego Movie", and Big Thanks goes to Warner Bros. PH again for the advanced screening!

Movie: The Lego Movie

In The Lego Movie, an old wizard named Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) seeks the aid of "The Special", a Master Builder destined to save the Lego Universe from total domination from the tyrannical Lord Business (Will Ferrell), who seeks to glue everything together with a superweapon known as "The Kragle" (or Krazy Glue). Eight years later, an ordinary construction worker named Emmet (Chris Pratt) lives about his daily routine and life, but is quickly entangled in an adventure after finding the mysterious "Piece of Resistance", an artifact which is said to help "The Special" in his mission to restore balance and order in the world. After passing out, being captured by Good Cop, Bad Cop (Liam Neeson), and then saved by the mysterious and beautiful Master Builder named Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks), Emmett is quickly considered as "The Special", and joins forces with Vitruvius and other Master Builders like Batman (Will Arnett) and Benny (Charlie Day) in order to fight Lord Business and save the Lego Universe from being destroyed on Taco Tuesday.

The Lego Movie Trailer

Following a premise that is just as prophetic as The Matrix and epic in scale as Star Wars, The Lego Movie pretty much has everything a Lego fanatic can ask for - characters, buildings, spaceships, universes, and everything else that the sun can throw out and make to put a smile in a person's face! The movie may hold similar themes to the first Matrix film in particular, but Emmet is unique from Neo in the sense that the film doesn't preach about acquiring superpowers or gifts right away. Rather, it makes the ordinary guy with no imagination whatsoever realize he can be a hero in his own right after finds courage and strength within himself in order to BE SPECIAL. Of course, comedic antics and cool stuff ensue that's better left unsaid and seen in person in order to truly enjoy this CG Animated family filled adventure for what it is.

I have to hand it to Phil Lord and Chris Miller, they really knew how to push the right buttons and channel the kind of LEGO EXPERIENCE that ANYONE can enjoy, whether they be the kid at heart or some guy who collects particular themes of the toy franchise altogether. In fact, plenty of cameo appearances by certain Lego lines both original and licensed are seen here, so don't be surprised to see a lot of the Lego DC Superheroes make appearances in the movie! Heck, Lego Batman is a prominent supporting character who just likes to be cool and showoff his Bat-stuff whenever he gets the chance, and It's that kind of comedy and usage of particular licenses that makes this so absolutely engaging and fun to watch! You even get Lord of the Rings' own Gandalf, TMNT's Michaelangelo, and yes Wonder Woman (voiced by Cobie Smulders btw), and best watch for Superman and Green Lantern... They're voiced by two guys Lord and Miller have worked with recently and later on this year in a sequel movie!

So yes... The Lego Movie is AWESOME, and you definitely need to see it with family, friends, kids, or loved ones! Hashtag it, play it, or listen to this theme song just to remember the movie by!
